I've been de-flowered.....

I'm no longer a Trader Joe's virgin. By reading many different blogs, I hear that TJ is all the rage. I have to say, ehh. Maybe ours here in the Midwest are smaller and don't carry as much? There are 3 here in Minnesota and the closest one to me is 40 miles away. After I watch the ER finale this morning after work, I hopped in the car and drove up. It was very small-like clothing store small. I was expecting a lot more. We have a couple hometown (meaning a group of family owned-only in MN stores) called Lunds and Byerly's that are high end. Like, carpeted grocery stores.....with fresh fish and lobster tanks.......a restaurant.......and an art gallery. I guess that is what I was expecting.

However, I did find some fun stuff.

I got these beautiful flowers. I'm not so hot on horticulture, but I know there are lilies-Calla, I think. Not sure about the purple and white 'fluffy' ones. But they were a deal at 7 bucks.
I found some Meyer lemons which I can't get at my local store, but maybe at Lunds/Byerly's. I found the tri-colored bag of spuds again, so I snapped those up. I found some ginger beer that I need for a cocktail (if I can find the recipe), some different root beer, some dark chocolate so I can make Dawn's Peanut Butter cups, some Challah bread which I have never had in my life, but I have seen many posts about making french toast out of it. Then there are the chocolate croissants-yeah baby, I may eat all four of those myself when I bake them off! I also found these thin chocolate and macadamia nut cookies.

Ours also has a liquor store-do they all? I found a couple of bottles to try. Who could not want to pick up a bottle by Pancake Cellars with a giant pancake terrorizing a town? It is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Blanc. It says that it contains flavors of pear, kiwi, melon, honeysuckle, jasmine and orange blossom. I seriously bought it for the label, like I have done many times before.

It was kind of fun, but for my regular shopping, I will stick to my regular store.
I really did enjoy the last episode of ER. I read some comments on other sites about people being disappointed-that they thought it should be all out extreme. I thought the story line was well written, there was some closure, but also showed it as life going on. The part that made me cry was when Rachel Green, Mark Green's daughter showed up on a visit from college to see if she wanted to be an ER doctor like her dad. The story had come full circle. I know, those of you who don't watch probably are like "it's just a show", but it was such a good show (well, there was a bad year or two, but overall very good) that drew you into the stories. So farewell all my TV friend at County General, it has been wonderful spending Thursday with you for the last 15 years. And thanks for letting us see what the hospital actually looks like from the outside-not just the ambulance bay!

So jealous closest one for me is 2 hours away. Although my wallet praises me for that distance.

In my experience each TJ is different. None of the ones near me has liquor, in fact there is only one in Mass that carries it. But that one carries a brand called Shaw wine, which is 3 bucks a bottle and surprisingly good. You want to let the reds breath for a while though. I've heard the ones on the west coast are the best.

There are none close to here nor is there a Whole Foods. Looks like you had a fun time and came home with some great loot! What time shall I arrive for cocktails? ;-)

I really miss Whole Foods.

Bob,
They did have Shaw's wines at this one. I don't know if that is the stuff they call "3 Buck Chuck"? Which I guess used to be 2 Buck-economy and everything.

Katherine-name the time and I'll have cocktails made and the piles of laundry pushed aside so there is a place to sit :)

Dawn-I wish I would have checked out the nuts, but the nut aisle was literally packed with 17 pregnant women and 98 of thier children, so I scooted around them. I should look again when it isn't spring break?

Jeff, on a nice spring day, a two hour ride might be fun??

Donna-I'm not sure. Maybe if I was up there for a reason. My Mom lives about 15 minutes from there and my BFF lives just down the road, but don't think I would make a special trip like I did today. I really thought it would be bigger, but this one was very small and very limited in what they carried. The clothes they wear are very cute!
